Commenting here in the Cockblog because The Daily Gamecock is still having problems accepting comments. This is in response to a young lady who whined about not supporting the Gamecocks because they did not support the fan:
“Ms. Fantone – seriously – I am assuming the Gamecock football team is the first team you’ve ever had the chance to support, and after reading your article I am assuming they will be fine with or without your half heartedness. You see young lady – being a fan means to SUPPORT your team, it means you wake up in the morning wondering how well they practiced today, you talk about the roster with such reverences that no one in their right mind would ever consider debating you on the subject of Gamecock football … but alas, you have let the cat out of the bag and you used The Daily Gamecock to voice such an opinion – one that will be forever etched into the binaries of the electronic age. You cannot take it back – you cannot look another member of Gamecock nation in the eye and talk seriously about their upcoming game with Florida, hell, you can’t even talk seriously about Gamecock soccer, Gamecock volleyball, and don’t even consider showing up at the defending National Champion Gamecock baseball sessions. Your consideration or lack thereof speaks volumes on how little you really do care about the garnet and black. What it really means to be 3rd and 8 – in the cold – in the rain and down by a ton of points. Those boys out there work every day of the week to put numbers up on that scoreboard. They wear that Gamecock proudly when they travel to places around the SEC. Why? Because they are Gamecocks – much like yourself. They are playing for poor sports like yourself – and if you think having a pretty face and place to voice your opinion will continue to get you what you want, when you want and how you want it? Well young lady – start guessing again – you have lost your right in Gamecock nation to voice your opinion as it matters little to those of us that WILL travel, that WILL put on extra clothing, that WILL sit through a miserable defeat, and we’ll be the ones in the horseshoe with a huge smile on our face when we beat Clemson in a game that winds up meaning nothing in the SEC standings – but means the world to us because we were there through thick and thin. When you are heading for the exit because things didn’t work out exactly as planned – look to your left and you will find a GAMECOCK – look to your right and you will find a GAMECOCK, but put another article in our school newspaper about not supporting us and you young lady may pick up an application to FAIR WEATHER FAN UNIVERSITY on your way out.”
